Happy Monday!

It's been a good day in our classroom today! In reading, we reviewed working on determining the main idea of a story. I talked to the kids about how good readers monitor their reading by asking questions like "What is this story or part mostly about?" It's good for them to stop every so often to sum up what they have read. You can do this with them at home when you read together, too. Ask your child to sum up after each page. The summary should only be a sentence or two and should answer who the page(s) are about and the most important thing the characters are doing.

In math, we had an exploration day. The students' did activities to build understanding of perimeter and area. They worked really well together and did a fantastic job. We are going to be finishing up our unit on Measurement at the end of this week, and we'll take our assessment on Friday.

In science, the kids are finishing up the Human Body unit. They will take an assessment to monitor their understanding of key concepts on Wednesday. This assessment along with their participation will help me determine their grade on the report card. We'll talk more about this during conferences.

Speaking of conferences, I'll be sending home a reminder note with your day/time for conferences later this week. If you need to make a change, please call Mrs. Klocko in the office at 981-1850. She has the master list of my conference times.
